- How do people contribute to awareness and understanding of their lives and the lives of their communities through art-making? When people make art, especially in repetitive ways like print making, it helps the artist truly observe their art and think about themselves and the thoughts that went into creating their art. They can contribute these stories about themselves and their community out to other people in their communities, bringing awareness to their art and their situations.
- How did you incorporate the elements and principles of the assignment (texture, contrast, and line)? I used contrast to create the separation between the dark part of the road, the medium pieces in the lake, and the mostly white spots in the sky. Using different shapes helped create different textures, making separate parts easier to see. I used many different lines to create darker spaces like in the trees or the lake.
- What do you intend for audiences to see, experience, and think about when viewing your work?
- Which are the most successful aspects of your work? I think the most successful parts of my work were the different textures and patterns I used for the foliage. I used both straight lines and more circular lines, which I feel created contrast between the different elements.
- What was your inspiration for creating this artwork? The scene that I chose the create a print of is the shore of Lake Ontario at the edge of a road which holds a lot of memory for me. My mother and I come here often to collect rocks and I swim here with my cousins during the summer.
- Did you encounter any difficulties when creating your artwork? How did you work through them? Sometimes my prints didn’t have the right amount of ink or it wasn’t spread evenly enough so the print would turn out poorly, but after a few practices on both the mini print and full sized print, I believe I got some that had been well made.
- Is there anything about your work that you now think you should have done differently? If so, please explain what and why. I think I would have made the mostly inked part solid black instead of trying to make the small lines that were ripped off while rubbing the ink in.
