• How do people contribute to awareness and understanding of their lives and the lives of their communities through art-making?
  • I believe using art to express your thoughts and ideas is an important way to communicate your culture, beliefs, community, and opinions. For me, making art, music, or writing can help to communicate my feelings and can be more understandable than using words. Art-making is important when trying to convey a topic.
  • How did you incorporate the elements and principles of the assignment (texture, contrast, and line)?
  • I added contrast, shadow, and highlights. I used a technique of peeling the Tetra-pak material to make the shadowed areas more defined.
  • What do you intend for audiences to see, experience, and think about when viewing your work?
  • I want to audience to feel like they are in the engraved scene, instead of just viewing the art. I would hope that the viewers would feel like they are really there, within the art piece.
  • Which are the most successful aspects of your work?
  • I believe the most successful aspect of my engraving art piece is the depth and straight lines. When engraving, I used the X Acto craft knife carefully and slow in order to achieve really straight lines.
  • What was your inspiration for creating this artwork?
  • My inspiration for doing this project was Eastview mall. This mall is a place that I typically gather/meet up with family, therefore, the special memories gave me inspiration for this piece.
  • Did you encounter any difficulties when creating your artwork? How did you work through them?
  • Creating letter was difficult because the letters have to be backwards in order to be printed correctly.
  • Is there anything about your work that you now think you should have done differently? If so, please explain what and why.
  • One thing I wish I could have done differently would be adding a basic background behind this building instead of leaving it blank. I wish I did not leave so much negative space.
