Good/Bad/Like/Dislike

Good Art/Don’t Like
I chose the lobster because technically I think the artist shows a lot of skill and ability. They capture the folds and creases of the balloon material and foil accurately. I don’t like this image because I find it to be slightly disturbing. Ok, hear me out, that noise that balloons make when they’re slightly deflated, it icks me out. So while I believe this piece is incredibly skilled and “good art,” I just don’t like it all that much.

Good Art/Like
For this piece, I am fascinated by the way it feels like a surreal botanical illustration. There are more and more details that emerge the longer I look at the image. I am interested in the ribbons or fabric scraps that are attached to each animal in the series. The way the red birds stand out against the blue feathers of these birds while wrapping them up with red threads is visually interesting. I am also perplexed by the rabbits in the sky. They look like they’re painted on found landscape paintings. I am inspired and want to paint something like this.

Don’t Like/Bad
I really struggled with looking at this artwork. It’s not something that I am drawn to or interested in. I don’t like the strong graphic shapes and the harsh shading. I’m uncomfortable with the pose of the body as well. The figure is almost looking back over their shoulder at the viewer.

Bad Art/Don’t Like
I’m going to be honest with this one. I don’t love this photo. It’s blurry, I can’t see the subject, and the composition is really lacking in interest. Photography is one method of contemporary art that I don’t always understand or appreciate. While I think there are ways to make this more interesting (change the exposure, increase the focus, adjust the composition), I just don’t find this captures my attention for very long. https://www.booooooom.com/2023/08/16/fifteen-vaults-by-photographer-brandon-tauszik/
