Notions of Home Final

Notions of Home Reflection
- What was your inspiration for the project?
My inspiration was my two dogs, Lucee and Mollee, who always wait on the staircase until I get home. They view the entire house from the staircase, including the doors, so they are the first to know when I’m home. Immediately they run down the stairs to greet me, and it’s my favorite part of the day
- What was the biggest challenge you encountered while working on the project?
The challenging part of the project was incorporating the words “I miss you” in the drawing, and I wanted it to be consistent everywhere and not very noticeable. The other hard part for me was drawing my dogs (especially in motion) because they are unique and have funny shapes.
- How does this project tie together previous exercises and concepts you have learned?
I did an illustration using words which is new to me and that I have learned recently within the last month. It ties into the idea of incorporating senses into art by the words being sound.
- What was your favorite part of this assignment?
My favorite part of the assignment was creating something meaningful to me, and my home is really important to me, so I enjoyed the project throughout. I also liked trying something new; using words challenged me as well.
1/2 Way Through Critique Reflection
Overall it’s just beneficial to have feedback, both positive and negative. People noticed things that maybe I missed, giving me a different perspective. On my self-portrait, I would have liked to make the drawing black, like the photo side. For future ink pen drawings, I would like to incorporate more color. I want to draw in a similar style to the still life and play around more with design ideas and shading textures. I also like to draw people, so I would like to practice drawing people and build that skill, as that is something I would like to work on.
