Charcoal Portrait
- How much did you know about drawing portraits before we started?
I just knew that it was basically you just drawing yourself on a piece of paper or something.
- What process did you go through to produce this piece?
We used charcoal, printed our face, traced it, and colored it in.
- In what ways have you gotten better at this kind of work? In what ways can you improve?
I think I know how to use charcoal better and I know what it takes to finish a portrait. I can improve by maybe coloring it in better with the charcoal.
- How do you feel about this piece of work? What parts of it do you particularly like? Dislike? Why? What did/do you enjoy about this piece or work?
I feel good about it. I liked the pose I chose to portray. No dislike. No why. I enjoyed charcoaling it.
- Did you do your work the way other people did theirs? In what ways did you do it differently? In what ways was your work or process similar?
Probably. I didn’t maybe just the pose I was in and I used gloves. Everyone used the same materials and cardboard and same way to trace it so nothing new.
- What’s the one thing that you have seen in your classmates’ work or process that you would like to try in your next piece?
I don’t think anything really maybe just the way most people did their faces but I liked that I didn’t color mine in because I think it looks better.
- How do artists create detailed portraits expressing the personality of the person that is drawn?
They try to make it as real as possible so it relates to them in the picture.
