How much did you know about drawing portraits before we started?

Not much, I am not experienced in using charcoals or drawing portraits
What process did you go through to produce this piece?

I practiced drawing out proportions on the face
In what ways have you gotten better at this kind of work? In what ways can you improve?

I learned a lot about drawing eyes, I realized that they are not simply circles. I would like to improved on shading noses.
How do you feel about this piece of work? What parts of it do you particularly like? Dislike? Why? What did/do you enjoy about this piece or work?

I like my piece, considering it is my first time making a charcoal portrait, I believe I did pretty well. I particularly like the jawline on my piece. I believe the shape and shading came out well. I dislike the forehead shading and eyebrows. I feel like the forehead shading looks muddy and the eyebrows dont have hair strokes and overall they definitely could be improved.
Did you do your work the way other people did theirs? In what ways did you do it differently? In what ways was your work or process similar?

I would say we all mostly did the same process, however, my portrait I also filled in the background.
What’s the one thing that you have seen in your classmates’ work or process that you would like to try in your next piece?

I would like to try to make small marks and laying the shades instead of smudging them all together
How do artists create detailed portraits expressing the personality of the person that is drawn? By drawing specific characteristics about the individual persons place.
