Extensions of the Body
1/2 way through critique reflection: It was helpful to sit down and talk about the direction of my project. I knew what I wanted to do in terms of medium and artistic style, but I was struggling to create a concrete concept. I am playing around with the idea of an optical illusion and minimalist line art. If time allows, I would be curious to do two separate paintings in order to try out both of these ideas. My next step is to schedule a chunk of time to do these paintings. In the meantime, I am working on sketches for the project.
My inspiration for this project was an artist names Alexa Meade, and the famous portrait by Vermeer titled Girl with a Pearl Earring. The biggest challenge was coming up with a solid idea; I knew I wanted to do something inspired by Alexa Meade and paint my little sister, but I wasn’t sure what direction I should go with the artwork. The next biggest challenge was re-creating the head scarf! This project tied together my knowledge of perspective and light, and uses the small amount of photoshop skills I have acquired over the years. My favorite part of this project was the actual painting process. My sister and I both had a lot of fun with it.
