SDG artist Maya Lin
Maya Lin is a female artist that was born in Ohio. Her parents are immigrants from Vietnam, and she greatly incorporates that fact in her work. She graduated from Yale. She spreads awareness about how different people have bias against immigrants, and I think that this is very important work. This relates to a SDG because she talks about racism and injustice towards immigrants. She also bases all of her pieces and plans them from culturally diverse places. This includes different gardens, monuments, and other places. She has a direct quote where she talks about the struggle of being a child of an immigrant, and the uncertainty of where she is from and where her roots are. She uses sculpture and installation art. Her most famous piece, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, has the purpose of getting Vietnamese soldiers to speak for themselves. This connects the tragedy of what happened on the foreign soil where her parents are from to the United States soil where she is from.
