WHAT I LIKE ABOUT BILL RUSSELL’S WORK:

I really like his style of painting. It’s realistic to the point where everything is obviously what it is, and you don’t need to wonder if the boat is really a boat. However, I do like that the paintings don’t look like he took a picture and exactly printed it with paint, instead it has its own style. Influence-wise, I love what Bill is portraying with climate change, and showing in his work how life could be if we continue on the route we’re on. In ‘The Deluge’ I like how the items in the water aren’t fully realistic. For example, the sea monster and the empire state building. I admire that the sun is rising, showing that change is appearing, and the closer to the sun, the less trash is in the water. Regarding the ‘Utility Box,’ I love how beautiful and bright the painting is. I believe this work is showing the lack of nature in the area surrounding it, showing that the only “natural” beauty is artificial. ‘Valley Fire’ is a really powerful piece, and I believe that it shows how powerful art can be when it comes to spreading news through the media. In ‘Galleon on Red Sea’ It’s less of a climate change piece, and more anti-war. It’s showing the perspective of a boat in the middle of the sea surrounded by falling aircrafts. The blood from the victims is dying the sea red. Overall, Bill Russell’s work represents SDG #13, Climate Action.
