Zaria Foreman is an artist who travels to a variety of often remote areas around the world that many people may never experience seeing themselves. She gathers photos and information capturing the beauty of these places. Zaria uses pastels and creates this kind of movement in which it feels that time is moving by and appeals to people as they feel connected to the place, as shown in her work. She talks about when people feel connected to something they care more about and are willing to help work towards helping to save. Zaria’s message around the idea of connection resonated with me as I know when I feel connected to something, I want to be close to it. Such as, when I look at one of her works, I feel connected to the place; although I most likely never visit it, the idea of climate change affecting something I now feel so connected to makes me want to take action. I also love how she shows how beautiful the natural world can be, which is refreshing as many climate activists show this issue’s damage and complex parts. While both are effective, I like how she shows beauty through her work, although climate change is devastating and unsightly.
