  • The most difficult part of this project was figuring out how to translate what I saw in front of me into 2D, colored pencil on paper. Capturing the look of the glass and the reflections on the metal tea kettle were particularly difficult.
  • The easiest part of this project was choosing a place on the still life set-up to begin my piece. I tried out a couple of different positions, but I was immediately drawn to this composition that included a good mix of fabric, reflective metal, and see-through glass.
  • I really enjoyed working on the glass jar. It was difficult, but I really enjoyed figuring out how to capture the see-through glass.
  • While I worked, I learned about building colors and figuring out the best ways to use the colored pencils to get the desired textures.
  • If I had to create another still life, I would try to do something else with the background, and I would try to create richer, darker darks.
