The most difficult part of this project was figuring out how to translate what I saw in front of me into 2D, colored pencil on paper. Capturing the look of the glass and the reflections on the metal tea kettle were particularly difficult.
The easiest part of this project was choosing a place on the still life set-up to begin my piece. I tried out a couple of different positions, but I was immediately drawn to this composition that included a good mix of fabric, reflective metal, and see-through glass.
I really enjoyed working on the glass jar. It was difficult, but I really enjoyed figuring out how to capture the see-through glass.
While I worked, I learned about building colors and figuring out the best ways to use the colored pencils to get the desired textures.
If I had to create another still life, I would try to do something else with the background, and I would try to create richer, darker darks.
