Student & Teacher Art Exhibit

This piece is by Olivia Brown at Eastridge High School. They named it “Creation of Waste” and it is made of Acrylic and Sculpey. I love the idea of using things that people may see as garbage or just reusing things that have already been used for their purpose. It seems to me that the artist used Acrylic paint scraps that had dried, they then made them into a rainbow. The hand breaking through the canvas seems kind of gross and scary to me contrasting with the vibrant colors behind it. I find it interesting that they used scraps for the part of this piece that feels beautiful to me and the more harsh part is made realistic with Sculpey. It almost feels to me that the hand is breaking through a facade, especially with the black and red on it, it feels like it’s screaming at me. I like that they didn’t leave the background blank, they made it similar to the paint scraps, but also kept it very light.
